University Entry Tests

NUST

Computer-based entrance exam for NUST Engineering and Computer Science programs. Held at NUST campus (Islamabad) and select centers, it assesses Math, Physics, and English at HSSC level. Conducted multiple times a year (Series 1–4) with scores used for merit ranking. No negative marking; selection is purely merit-based.

NUST

Entrance test for NUST Business, Social Sciences, and related programs. Covers Quantitative math and English (approximately equal weight). Offered as part of NUST NET sessions alongside other disciplines. No negative marking; admissions based on relative merit.

NUST

Specialized NET for Architecture and Industrial Design applicants. Includes a Design Aptitude section (50% weight) along with Mathematics and English. Tests drawing/design sense plus basic math and language skills. Conducted in NET Series schedule. No negative marking.

NUST

NET variant for candidates from Pre-Medical background applying to programs like Biotechnology, Agriculture, etc. Emphasizes Biology (50%), Chemistry (30%), English (20%). No math is tested. Administered in regular NET sessions. No negative marking; merit-based selection.

LUMS

LUMS's own admission test for undergraduate programs (an alternative to SAT/ACT). It evaluates mathematical and verbal reasoning skills in a SAT-style format. The LCAT 2025 had 4 sections (2 Math, 2 English), total ~80 questions, with 2 hours 40 minutes allowed. No negative marking. Required for applicants not submitting SAT/ACT scores.

FAST-NUCES

Computer-based test for FAST (NUCES) admissions, required for BS (CS, Engineering) and BBA programs. The test is 2 hours long, covering Quantitative (Mathematics), English, and Analytical/IQ sections. Different programs have tailored question distributions (e.g. Engineering includes advanced math). Negative marking is applied (−0.25 per wrong answer). The test is conducted once per admission cycle, across all FAST campuses.

Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC)

Pakistan's nationwide entrance exam for MBBS/BDS admissions, mandatory for all medical colleges. The MDCAT is a paper-based test held in multiple cities simultaneously. It consists of 200 MCQs covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, and Logical Reasoning. Total time allotted is 3.5 hours. There is no negative marking in MDCAT. A minimum qualifying score is set by authorities (e.g., 65% MBBS/55% BDS in 2022, lowered to 33% in 2024).

National University of Medical Sciences

Entrance test for NUMS-affiliated medical colleges (e.g. Army Medical College). The 2025 NUMS test has two parts: Part-A (150 MCQs in 150 min) covering Biology (~35%), Chemistry (~25%), Physics (~25%), English (~10%); and Part-B (100 MCQs in 30 min) which is a psychological aptitude test (not scored toward merit). No negative marking. Passing criteria are aligned with national standards (55% for MBBS, 45% for BDS). Admissions require a valid MDCAT as well.

Aga Khan University (Medical College)

Admission test for AKU's MBBS program. It is a paper-based exam comprising 100 MCQs divided into two sections: Science Achievement (biology & chemistry knowledge, 50 questions) and Science & Math Reasoning (analytical problems, 50 questions). Time allowed is 2 hours. There is ¼ negative marking in the Science Achievement section, while no negative marking in the reasoning section. High performance in this test is required to be shortlisted for interviews. AKU also accepts SAT/MCAT scores for eligible applicants in lieu of the AKU test.

IBA Karachi

Aptitude test for IBA Karachi's undergraduate programs (BBA, BS). It consists of multiple-choice questions in English and Mathematics, typically 90 questions total (45 Math, 45 English) with a 2 hour 45 minute time limit. No general knowledge section is separately tested. There is no negative marking. Candidates must score at least 60% to qualify for the next stage (group discussion & interview). IBA conducts admissions in two rounds (Round-1 in spring, Round-2 in summer) with this test.

GIK Institute

Entrance exam for GIK Institute's BS Engineering and Computer Science programs. It is a 2-hour test with multiple-choice questions in Physics, Mathematics, and English. Typically there are ~80 questions (e.g. 30 Math, 30 Physics, 20 English) totaling 200 marks. Previously, negative marking was applied in Math/Physics (−1 for wrong on 3-mark questions), but GIKI has removed negative marking since last year. The test is conducted at designated centers simultaneously in major cities. Admissions are decided on test score (85% weight) plus academic performance.

UET Lahore

Combined entry test organized by UET Lahore for admission to undergraduate Engineering/Technology programs across Punjab. ECAT is held multiple times (e.g., First ECAT in March, Second ECAT in June 2025). It comprises 100 MCQs: 30 Mathematics, 30 Physics, 30 Chemistry OR Computer Science, and 10 English. Duration is ~100 minutes. No negative marking. The best score among attempts is considered. ECAT is computer-based, administered at UET-designated test centers. There is no set passing score; candidates must take at least one ECAT to be eligible for engineering admission (final selection is based on a combined merit of 70% F.Sc marks and 30% ECAT score).
